I live in Chicago and mine is The Illinois film Office. They are valuable resource for finding out what is going on in the state . Mostly independent work, but occassionally some studio features list. If you are trying to get your feet wet you should try to intern with some of the pros in your area. Learn as much as you can, get experience however you can and build that resume. If you are willing to travel and work for cheap I know about projects that need help in Chicago.

well hey, i live in illinois too...decatur acually. Well i have only worked with digital. And my experiance isn't that great. See i am a senior in high school,and out school has a video production class, i have made several short inexpensive films using the schools equipment...ie canon gl1, premire, after effects...but i will be graduating early in december and hopefully going to Full Sail in flordia, i don't know if you have heard of it, but it is a film school down there, but if any of those projects you know about in chicago are willing to take a recent high school gradute, i would be more than willing to going to chicago and at least interning for a little whiel.

don't waste your time or money going to full sail......you can get just as good of an education in film production at Piedmont community college in north carolina or Valencia community college in orlando florida.... both have the same programs as full sail, but for about 1/4 the cost......
